Bro. Eli Soriano offered possible solutions to illegal drug dependency as he sincerely shared his reflection about “biblical wisdom that may give hope and total renovation in the being of a drug addict” in his latest blog article published on Saturday.
“Life is precious. There is hope for drug addicts,” wrote Bro. Eli in the first of the two-part blog series titled, “Drug Addiction: The Mystery Begins with Proving.”
Much publicized recently is the issue about drug addiction in the Philippines as President Rodrigo Duterte’s ‘war against illegal drugs’ campaign has divided the public opinion. While there are good news like tens of thousands of drug addicts and drug pushers who surrendered themselves to the authorities, the fight against drugs is marred by reported vigilante killing and summary execution of alleged pushers and users.
In an earlier blog, Bro Eli cited current statistics on drug abuse and the move of the new administration to rid the country of this problem. Titled, “MCGI and Duterte’s Fight Against Illegal Drugs,” he wrote how a drug addict can find hope in rehabilitation and proper guidance with the help and mercy of God.
Bro. Eli said that since drugs are proven to be harmful to man, the logical and sensible idea is to abstain from it. He cited 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22, which says: “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil.”
He described those who persistently oppose claims on the dangers posed to humans of the use of illegal substances as reckless. “An enlightened person is cautious about things that he eats like the Apostle Peter and Prophet Ezekiel,” Bro. Eli explained.
He then cited Acts 10:13-14, which reads: “And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.”
Bro. Eli added: “Note that Peter remembered a principle taught to him earlier, and that was why he refused.” Another example he mentioned is written in the Book of Ezekiel, chapter 4, verse 14, which says: “Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! behold, my soul hath not been polluted: for from my youth up even till now have I not eaten of that which dieth of itself, or is torn in pieces; neither came there abominable flesh into my mouth.”
In sum, Bro. Eli wrote: “A thing that poses danger to health and life, and was proven by the generations, must not be proved anymore by anyone using the intelligence and understanding. There is already a universal standard about it.”
