Manila, Philippines – The blog of International Evangelist Bro. Eli Soriano, host of Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path), was honored with a People’s Choice Award in its category in the 12th Philippine Web Awards this month. This is the second consecutive award for esoriano.wordpress.com, a sign of recognition to the preacher’s use of technology to spread biblical awareness on the Web.
Bro. Eli and the organization he leads, Members Church of God International, have been reaping awards from the same local award-giving group since the early 2000s. In 2009, esoriano.wordpress.com won the Most Popular Website of the Year, the competition’s top prize, which this year went to UNTVweb.com, the online presence of UNTV 37.
The organization’s website, www.mcgi.org, was given the People’s Choice Award in the Corporations, Foundations and Organizations category. Bro. Daniel Razon, Vice-Presiding Minister to MCGI, also received a People’s Choice Award for his website, www.danielrazon.com.
In the international arena, esoriano.wordpress.com was hailed as the Most Educational Blog to Follow in the Open Web Awards of Mashable.com in 2009. The award-giving body is founded by tech guru, Pete Cashmore, whose Mashable website says it “covers major innovations in web technology.”
Bro. Eli’s blog was started in 2007 in hopes of raising biblical awareness among the preacher’s international audience. The blog features biblical standpoints on current issues with scientific bases.
Bro. Eli’s web presence worldwide evidently grew stronger as continuous recognition in local and international awards competitions kept pouring in. Another international honor came in this year via the Shorty Awards held last March in New York City. His Twitter account ranked third place under the television category, besting some of the biggest names in television like Sesame Street, How I Met Your Mother, Psyche, and more.
The account, @BroEliSoriano rose against more than 1,000 nominees in the social media competition. The Filipino preacher’s Twitter account is now being followed by more than 17,700 Twitter users.
