Cagayan De Oro – ‘Dunong-Gulong’, the joint educational project of media channel UNTV and the Ang Dating Daan religious group, was recently awarded and recognized by the Department of Education-Cagayan de Oro City (DepEd-CDO) unit.
DepEd Schools Division Superintendent Elena Borcillo extended the the Education Department’s gratitude to the project’s progenitors, Ku
Bro. Eli is the Presiding Minister to Members Church of God International (MCGI), which is popularly-known by the religious show it produces, Ang Dating Daan.
This kind of innovation is not just helpful but encouraging as well, according to Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Reynaldo Manuel Jr.
The Dunong-Gulong’s presence in Cagayan de Oro gave an idea to the DepEd field office to launch a project which resembles the transportable learning center.
During the Dunong-Gulong’s stay in CDO, it has worked together with the local government unit and with the private academic institution, Xavier University.
The learning hub is an innovative mobile learning system (ALS) that offers basic education for the out-of-school youth and the indigenous in far-flung areas. The project was first launched in 2010 and was piloted in the provinces of Masbate and Quezon.
The Dunong Gulong bus, fully equipped with state-of-the-art learning facilities, reached the city of Cagayan de Oro in 2012, and since then has significantly helped in alleviating the academic status of the out-of-school youth in the area.
This undertaking also paved the way for these indigents to get jobs that can provide them long-term socioeconomic stability.
The roaming educational hub will go next to Tacloban City, one of the seriously devastated areas by Super typhoon Yolanda that hit the Visayan region November last year.
